Adorable Supply began 78 years ago, (in 1938), as the Durable Duplicator Supply Co., in New York City, NY, serving the needs of corporations, institutions and government agencies. Meeting our commitments, keeping abreast of the current technologies and constant improvements to our customer services, has kept our customers returning year after year.  At present we are located in Winston Salem, NC and our ribbons are manufactured in Charlotte, NC.

In 1932, the "high tech" office copier was an A. B. Dick Mimeograph. Later there was the Teletype machine for international communications, Thermal and Electrostatic copiers. Pinfeed papers, or continuous fanfold forms on the IBM Computer printers became widely used in the 1950’s. The first Xerox copier, the #914, didn’t arrive until the 1960’s. The Hewlett Packard inkjets and laser printers came in the 1980’s with the digital revolution and color copiers and color printers, which became widely used in 2000+.

Adorable Supply has provided the papers and supplies for all of these machines with excellent service and always, very competitive prices. There is a Search by Name Index to search by the machine’s name and the popular current models.

Adorable Supply is now located in Winston Salem and Charlotte, NC.  We  have over 2,600 products for use in all types of printer and imaging devices. More Information on Our Thermal Paper Rolls and Carbonless Rolls

The earliest carbonless papers were developed by NCR (using 2 part coated back-to-front dye chemistry) and 3M (using self contained dye chemistry).  The more expensive NCR papers became widely used in multi-part Teletype rolls and continuous computer forms.  Adorable Supply used to manufacture the Teletype rolls in up to 10 plies and the computer forms in up to 8 parts.  Currently Adorable manufactures and stocks the computer forms in up to six parts and the Teletype rolls in up to two plies.  The less expensive 3M papers became widely used in 2 part receipt rolls.

The earliest direct thermal papers were developed by NCR (using dye chemistry) and 3M (using metallic salts). The first thermal fax machine and thermal copiers were developed by the 3M Corp.  The NCR technology, although the image would fade rather rapidly compared with the much more expensive, but more durable 3M technology, became the market leader over time.

Texas Instruments invented thermal print head in 1965, and the Silent 700, a computer terminal with a thermal printer, was put on market in 1969. The Silent 700 was the first thermal print system that printed on thermal paper.

In the 1970s and early 1980s, Japanese producers (such as Ricoh and Kanzaki) using similar dye based chemistry formed partnerships with barcode printer manufacturers (such as TEC, Sato, and others) and entered the emerging global bar code industry, now used primarily in supermarkets. U.S. producers such as Appleton (NCR's licensee), Nashua and others fought to gain back market share, but the primary thermal papers used today are Japanese.

Finally, in the early 1990s and continuing to the present, direct thermal papers has made its strongest market penetration with point of sale receipts (gasoline pumps, cash registers, credit card, restaurant and ATM receipts, etc.).  Today all of these applications are serviced by the thermal rolls that Adorable Supply manufactures and distributes.
